Aye, laddie, the Scots have fine history of dazzling their enemy with a variety of charms! Right before Gulf War I, a few hours before the berm was breeched between Saudia and Kuwait, the Scot piper mounted the berm, and serenaded the poor Iraqi bunker-dwellers with some lovely sounds that probably gave then another case of the squirts.

A couple of years ago, the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, along with the Black Watch, stopped in Austin on part of their 250th Anniversay tour. If anyone can sit and watch an listen to that absolutely stunning spectacle of precision, deserved swagger, and primordial sounds, and not be moved, they probably can't fog a mirror either.

BTW: it was some Black Watch troops who helped us in the Ardennes Forest in December 1944.

Proud to claim some Scot blood flowing through me veins! Years ago, I was almost soley responsible for maintaining the Scottish standard of living in the distillery industry.

Chris, it is my understanding that before the charge they lifted their kilts and shook their hinnies at them, ala Braveheart. (actually I don't know that)

My Grandfather was Black Watch, 42nd Regiment, if I remember correctly. He fought in WWI and somehow survived. When WWII broke out he was re-called up but only as a training NCO. He never had to go back overseas. He was a lovely man but I doubt if I would have wanted to incur his rath as a PVT. He was very regimental. My great uncle Jimmy used to send me a Black Watch Calendar every year until he died. I have yet to visit Scotland and am running out of relatives. I will go someday. My cousin Paddy and I are still in contact, barely, and can't wait to see him someday.

These Sons of St. Andrew are some tough lads, indeed.

Since 3 of my grandparents were off the boat from Ireland, I wouldn't be surprised to find a Scot in the woodpile .

LOVE the bagpipes! Although, I prefer the Irish pipes a little more. They're more melodious. I've been to many Scottish/Irish/Gaelic festivals, and the pipers are always the highlight for me.
