Default I got a letter today from the Little Rock VA hospital ...

It says that I have been tentatively accepted for the PTSD Residential Treatment Program for the week commencing 12 DEC 04. I would very much appreciate any insight from those who have been to Salem or any similar programs. I applied for this in July. Thanks !

Larry

I spent the summer of `98 in the PTSD program at American Lake VAMC in Tacoma,Wa. You`ll hear pros and cons regarding any and all of the programs and facilities across the country, but I`ll tell you this:You`re likely to meet some of the finest, most dedicated professionals in the world there who`s lot in life is to help you understand and deal with PTSD.You will also probably encounter some people who don`t give a shit about you and are only there because it`s a job.Lastly, you`ll no doubt run across a couple of phonies or wannabes that slipped through the cracks in order gain admittance.

My advice...Pay close attention to the good, ignore the bad,and kick the wannabes square in the nuts!

Default Never been

Never went to one of those, although a few doctors urged me to go. I worried they might not let me out. Doc Fred and Paco have told me they are VERY helpful but like anything, I guess if you wanna get help you will, go with an attitude and little good will come of it.

I always think of my rape victims, the ones I worked with, no one can make it go away but there are those who can help ease the pain. Good luck!

Stay healthy,
Andy

Andy is right. Go with a positive attitude. Very important: Leave all thoughts of increasing benefits behind. You are there for treatment and if that is what you do the benefits will follow. Just sincerely work the program. If Little Rock is like Salem one of the things in the contract within the group is to be nonjudgemental. Those people have seen it all and know the difference but will deal with things in ways that will not disrupt the group.
