China will not attend Peace Summit in Switzerland, — Reuters

China has declined an invitation to the Peace Summit in Switzerland despite Kyiv and Bern’s eagerness to see its representative at the table.

That’s according to Reuters.

“China has always insisted that an international peace conference should be endorsed by both Russia and Ukraine, with the equal participation of all parties, and that all peace proposals should be discussed in a fair and equal manner. Otherwise it will be difficult for it to play a substantive role in restoring peace,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on May 31.

Moscow, while not invited, doesn’t acknowledge the format of peace talks offered by Ukraine and the West. Moreover, it insists that China should arrange a separate peace conference.

Ukraine has already provided Reuters with response to China’s decision.

“We are very sorry that the Chinese side does not use the opportunity to present its position on the platform of the Summit in Switzerland,” a spokesperson for the Ukrainian embassy in Beijing stated.

On May 23, China and Brasil issued a joint statement calling for peace talks in the “conflict” between Russia and Ukraine.

Previously, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell warned that Russia was trying to sway BRICS countries’ opinion on the Peace Summit.

Josep Borrell believes Russia putting so much efforts into derailing the Peace Summit arranged by Ukraine and its allies only serves as obvious proof it is a major event.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said this as he arrived to the Foreign Affairs Council (Defense) in Brussels on May 28.

“If they [Russians] don’t want other countries to join the peace summit in Switzerland so much it means the forum is truly important,” – Borrell stressed.

Borrell revealed that Russia is particularly pushing BRICS members to abstain from attending the Peace Summit in Switzerland.

During a press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, President Zelenskyy mentioned the same issue and added that Russia will strive to arrange its own format of ‘peace talks’.

“Putin is afraid of this summit, trying to disrupt it and arrange some kind of parallel platform. That is why there are leaders who have not yet spoken out. If there are those who can support Russia, they are supporting the war today,” the leader of Ukraine said.

Previously, Zelenskyy stated that 90 countries have confirmed their attendance at the Peace Summit which will take place in Switzerland on June 15-16.

sure if he would get knocked off by someone - when out of town!.
Why Russia puts up with his bullshit is beyond me. He's way
