The Gettysburg Address

Delivered at Gettysburg, Pa. on Nov. 19th 1863

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But in a larger sense we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Personal note:
-
We were all taught this - early on in our life - when we were taught these issues in school.
But be advised - the issues should still apply - but have been taken to a new standard
as of the issues we have today. Much more different then back when it was written.

We've come a long way since then - and yet even today. The world issues of the day
have side stepped the course of Lincoln's address.

We are top heavy with Rep's & Dem's in the two parties today. We are more high
tech - and waring daily somewhere - all around the globe. Today our system
differs from those in other nations.

To me it seems we are led and/or dependent - on the ideals presented by our
Congressional interpretation of what's good for us and at what cost - today!
-
To see the recent insurrection - such as our Fore-Father's - must mean something
has gone awry - or that we've lost something - that is within the People's need.

Today what's good for our Country? Is it more than Lincoln had to deal with?

Must we follow such insurrections like the Civil War days?
-
We too are top heavy within our Country. To many Chief's & not enough
Indians. We are in a crisis of late - we are a splintered Nation.

[As they - Divided "We Will Fall" - Hence here we are once more with a
discontented - Nation wide!]
-
We are crossing to many bridges of late - that need to be mended! Why
must we be the world's watch dogs! How can we dictate to other Nation's
as they watch us suffer from our own internal backlash's & of any guarantee's
that we will sustain - or grow - as our Forefather's wished?

Closing comment by me:

a. Our Forefather's & Father's have all suffered World War's. We are in the
mitt's of a recent insurrection again to this day. Let us not forget that our
Brother's & Sister's - are once again in combat somewhere - all around
the globe.

b. I'm afraid we will suffer [a WWIII] and it will rewrite a whole new chapter
in our Nations History! Note: Were these actions really needed - and/or the
faults of poor leadership! When will we learn? God Be With US ALL!
