Air Travel

Sence 911 I haven't traveled by air anywhere.
Me and my wife used to go to one of the airports in Houston on Friday evening after she got off work and see where the airlines were going, If a place looked good we'd get a ticket and board, come back Sunday.
I am not going to put up with the Federal Governments rules and regulations on travel . Take off your shoes, ah, no.
If the Muslims start to use autos for murder then what, every vehicle gets serched?
The reason we are targeted is because we are a nation of woooooses, wheres the guy that tried to light his shoe? He should have been publicly excuted, not everyone take off your shoes. It just gets worse and worse, Now no liquid? WTF
For all there trying to make it safe they just make it more difficult to fly, not safer
Petty soon you will all be made to fly naked.

My niece is going in the Air Force in December. We will probably go to San Antone for her graduation. We are driving. Screw Flying! Last trip to Indy was enough for me. I hear you and get what your saying. It's worse than a Greyhound anymore.

Pack, your niece picked a good time to be in San Antonio for Boot Camp, I was there in July(way back in 1980) and it was HOT, She will enjoy the cool weather to march across the base to the firing range that's next to (closed)Kelly AFB. I'm glad the Airforce went to .223 rounds instead of the trashed out .22 conversions we used(they jammed alot) back in 1980. Make sure she gets a Pass to ride in your POV and all the other passes for the Day. My Parents came down for my Town Pass weekend and we went all over San Antonio and all I had to do was be back by curfew. My Parents took me to a Good Steak House near the Base that nite before I had to go back to the base and It was one of the best Steaks I ever had must have been a combination of the 4 weeks of Chow Hall grub and the good Texas Beef they served.Let us know what her AFSC is also . If she is in Admin any base will do . If she will be working on Systems (electrical or Hydraulic) Cargo Planes are easier, But, If she will be working on Engines or airframe then fighters are easier to maintain.

Texas has 3 season of weather, Winter, summer, and august.
December in San An is nice.

Thanks for that info. She scored so high on her test she is going to Crypto-Linquistics school at the all services school in Monterray Calif. She will probably be learning Arabic or Farsie or one of those middle-eastern languages. Recruiters told me, I know, they are recruiters, but told me that NSA, CIA, DIA, etc are luring them out of the AF with almost 6 figure salaries to start. The AF offers huge bonuses to stay but many opt out for the civilian bucks. She's going in as an E-3, but can't pin on until after graduation. She has 2 years of college. I took her to the Mighty 8th AF Museum in Savannah for her to learn her heritage and AF history. She saw it in 8th grade and didn't pay any attention. She was real impressed this trip at 21 and didn't have a clue about the sacrifices these men made for their country. They have an F4 there and I told her about how many times the AF saved our butts and her fathers, he was a medic, in Vietnam. He died at age 50 from a heart attack. Wonder why. This should be a fun trip. I am taking her to Parris Island on Aug 28th to reception at night to watch a couple of busses of females de-bus and hit the yellow footprints. I know the corps is different but it will give her an idea of her first night in boot camp. Should be fun to watch her as the DI's give these girls hell.

Ron, thanks for the Texas info. Just out of curiosity...can we expect snow in Texas in January? Our route takes us through New Orleans, Houston, then to San Antone. I guess it can snow anywhere in January except Hawaii.

No snow in San an in Jan or any other month, Maybe once every 15 or 20 years it will snow and be gone in a day.
iT snows in Dallas and in the panhandle every year.
Depending on your own body insulation , a jacket will be fine.

She will have a great time At Lackland after seeing the Marine DI's at work! The USAF TI's (Technical Instructors) will be much easier. I think they all like the pick em' up, Put em' down routine no matter which branch of service.
She should enjoy her career in the USAF and coming out of Basic as an A1C will be much better. I was a slick sleeve Airman Basic for a few month after Basic till I made my first stripe in Tech School @ Keesler AFB,MS. The best thing about her getting two stripes out of Basic is the Average Joe won't know how long she has been in the Air Force and won't treat her like a newbie as much.
BTW if she can, just take an overnight sized bag to Lackland she will enjoy her first nite doing the pick em' up routine better plus you carry all your gear to the barracks as your marching from were she gets off the Bus. The Air force will just put her Suitcase and Clothes in Storage till graduation anyways. She will get a dufflebag with her Uniforms and gear while in Basic Training. She can always have her folks mail her anything she needs from Home after she reaches Tech School for Training.Just some good advice I gave my Younger Brothers after I took too much stuff to Lackland for Basic Training
