Lightbulb Remembering C-Rats:

After reading over all of the posts concerning smoking and the brands of cigarettes obtained in C-Rats, I started to remember the types of C-Rats I ate during my Tour in Nam. Even us Air Force REMFs sometimes were forced to eat C-Rats when it became impossible, or impractical, to get to the Chow Hall while working. The C-Rats would be trucked out to us while we were on the Flight Line. I also got C-Rats while on Fuel Supply Flights aboard C-130s and C-123s.

My favorite meal was Franks and Beans. Ham and Lima Beans tasted awful and were usually thrown away, instead of consumed, as they could not even be traded for something more tasty. I also liked the Canned Fruit in most boxed meals. Cling Pears were the most sought after and could even bring two cans of Applesauce when traded. Canned Apricots and Peaches were also favorites.

Anyone else have favorite or hated types of C-Rat main courses? What canned fruit did you like the best?

To all of my Vietnam Veteran Brothers and Sisters I again state:
