EUROPEANS AND BRITS MUST ENTERTAIN PIGS. Friday Church News Notes, January 31, 2003 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - Because of a new law from the European Union, British and European farmers must provide entertainment for their pigs or face heavy fines and jail time. Farmers in Britain have 90 days to implement the new ruling, designed to "keep pigs happy and prevent them from chewing each other" (The Times, London, Jan. 29). A spokesman for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs suggested that soccer balls would probably work nicely but warned,
"Farmers may also need to change the balls so the pigs don't get
tired with the same one." Farmers who refuse to provide the proper entertainment for their pigs can be fined up to $1,500 or jailed for three months.
