What would you sacrafice to acheive world peace? Your Life?
I'm bringing this question over from military.com where SSGRock asked this question. I was taken by the replies of which I too had to make a statement. I will repeat my thoughts and look to see how this site will respond.
Sacrafice is a personal thing. You never know what you will do until you do it. Circumstances and your surrounding will impact your decision. It will depend on the clarity of your mind and your training so to what decisions you will make. It will depend on what you believe in and if your sacrafice will mean anything. I believe that some of our kids today don't believe in a hell of a lot. Things have changed for them from what we were at their age. I would have to ask a kid (young adult) what does he or she really believe in? Country? Family? or what? In the last ten years our kids have seen and heard many things. Some are not very popular or something they could support. How have they been taught? What influences have their Mother and Father taught them? What reasons do they need to commit the greatest sacrafice - themselves. I'm 56 now and I have strong beliefs in the Family, Flag and Country - to this very day. I've been around the world at least twice and seen things these kids have yet to see or experience. I"ve seen war, starvation and brutality. Some of these kids have seen this in their backyards or on the streets growing up. I had some of this in my earlier days in Chicago. But many of these kids haven't. I know my issues are personal and what I give our my choices - no one elses. I know what I would do because its buried within my whole being. I know what I would kill for and what I wouldn't. I also know now when to walk away - when earlier I'd fight in a heart-beat. Kids are not stupid. Our future depends on them and I have strong feelings that when push comes to shove they will be there for us all. Many have done this already and have given the great sacrafice in the past. I'm confident that they will do it again and again it just takes time to absorb the issues at hand and for them to figure out what course of action to take. We were once young and in my heart I still am. Fly the Flag

The measure of a man [or woman]
THE MEASURE OF A MAN
Not "How did he die?" But "How did he live?" Not "What did he gain?" But "What did he give?" These are the units to measure the worth; Of a man, as a man, Regardless of birth. Not "What was his station?" But "Had he a heart?" And "How did he play His God-given part?" Was he always ready, with a word of good cheer?" To bring back a smile and banish a tear?" Not "What was his church?" Nor "What was his creed?" But "Had he befriended those truly in need?" Not "What did the sketch, in the newspaper say?" But "How many were sorry?" When he passed away?" Gone but never forgotten |
