There Just Comes A Time....

There comes a time when politeness has got to take a back seat to common sense and caution! And that time finally arrived this morning when I was once again awoken from slumber at roughly 6:25 A.M. by a distant neighbor, a person who outside of seeing her around on occasions, once again came a tapping at my door, looking for a ride to the vicinity of a local casino, or “Live Oak Springs” - some ten miles away!

Now this is not the first time that this woman has arrived at our door looking for a ride, a situation that I am not unsympathetic to, but at age 80 years old, and living with my elderly wife and son, away out here in the mountainous and desolate back country, and with the weather starting to turn “November Bad”, I do not mind telling you that this is getting to be a real pain in the ass!

Well, it is now about 7:05 A.M. and I am beginning to get a bit concerned, as up here deep in “The Back Country of San Diego County”, the obvious dangers are plentiful, and even though my son accompanied by wife on this mission of mercy and kindness, it is still an expense and a danger that I am ill-prepared to continue to repeat! And even though this distant neighbor has been told that I just could not repeat this intrusion, she seems insistent upon pushing the envelope to its limits – “But It Just Must Stop Right Here!!

Well, it is now about 7:15 A.M. and my wife and son have just returned back from this trip.

I was also informed that this lady had offered a bit of cash for the gas, but as usual, my wife refused the money, as we are not some on-call taxi service! Besides that, a good thing can be pushed just so far – “And This is Uncas!!”
