![]() Nguyen Cao Ky, a Gereral and a Premier who became a ordinary U.S citizen, an
ordinary U.S citizen who became a businessman, a businessman who became an old man, an old man who defines little Saigon(Rome). In all aspects, Ky represents both main characters in the popular movie "Gladiator", Caesar and Maximus. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asi...ic/3396223.stm At 73 years old, Ky represents the character of Caesar "What will the world speak of my name in years to come? Will they know me as the warrior, the philosopher, the tyrant? or will they know me as someone who gave Rome(little saigon) back to her truth self?" said Caesar. "Those who bear grudges only care about themselves. I'm an old man now, so I have decided to dedicate to my country all that I have left to contribute - my mind, my health, my wisdom. I just want to help" said Ky. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asi...ic/3395015.stm In another way, Ky represents General Maximus. "Send me home!" Maximus said to Caesar. "My home country is Vietnam," Mr Ky said. Moreover, his rollercoaster ride from general to ordinary citizen, to businessman, to someone who defines the people he used to represent also strikingly similar to Maximus. In another way, Ky also represents the wisdom and vision of Caesar. "I have seen much of the world, which is dark, cruel and brutal. Rome is the light" said Maximus. "Yet you never been there(Little Saigon). You have not seen what it has became(Little Saigon became intolerant and radical) said Caesar. http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate...ld/7721713.htm "I think it is the duty of every Vietnamese to be united and build a new Vietnam to be a dragon in Asia. Just forget the past and just look to the future." said Ky. Vietnam cannot become a dragon of Asia, to run faster if the Vietnamese oversea are more interested in taking down communist flag at u.s schools, put bombs in vietnamese embassy oversea, hijack plane to drop leafless, automatically label someone as a communist when he or she advocates the notion of cooperation or working together among the Vietnamese people. "What I'm interested in now is the economic growth in Vietnam," Ky said. Vietnam cannot have strong economic growth if the Vietnamese oversea are silenced when the United States imposed unfair trade practices against Vietnam's major industries that would effect tens of millions of Vietnamese. "But my priority is to build the economy, to have a middle-class in the country, and later on, we'll think about political reform." said Ky. How could there be a middle class to demand for poliitcal freedom when the Vietnamese oversea is not fighting for their brother's freedom of filling their stomaches? "I think it's very wrong that some - especially some Vietnamese overseas in America - today (are) asking and demanding that Vietnam has to adopt some sort of democracy like they have in America." said Ky. Most of the 80 million vietnamese won't care a damn about this freedom, it won't work in a country like Vietnam. To the Vietnamese freedom is something they can eat, then when most of the 80 million vietnamese filled their stomaches, perhaps they will understand American's political freedom. Catfish and shrimp industries in Vietnam have been hit hard by U.S protective trade practices. Vietnam's furnitures and textile industries will be next. Who will be there in Washinton DC to fight for tens of millions of vietnamese farmers and workers? The only people who can fight for these vietnamese farmers and workers are vietnamese oversea, but the Vietnamese oversea is silenced and doing something else. Perhaps, the Vietnamese oversea should not wonder why their call for political changes in Vietnam fell to deaf ears. Audio, Vietnam's furnitures industry is about next: http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=1555310 audio, shrimp: http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=1579487 Audio, Textile http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=1496249 Hail to Nguyen Cao Ky. Hopefully this old man can unlock that bitterness among the vietnamese that was created by the united states, that the United states swept away without taking the responsibility to unlock it. Hopefully, Vietnam will run must faster after that bitter is unlocked. |

EXCUSE ME! the vietnamese screwed themselves....... >>> 50 years ago, your country was not only denied a people the freedom to be themselves, to be free of slavery of French a colonial rules, but your country worked with the French to finance them both economically and military to enslave a people who were asking nothing more than what your country had asked from King George of England in 1776. Not only that, your country developed plans after plans to divide that people: the Catholic movement from North to South fabricated by your government, the spoil of the election in 1956, and many more. Today, that very same people are asking again for nothing than that idea, that practice, that principle that your country has been enjoying and wants to promote it to everyone in the world: Free Trade. Yet, just like 50 years go, your country is denying it again to the very same people. To be a true a patriot or someone who really love your country, it is sad that you did not realize that your country with both hands handed its historical glories of political and economic principles to a people of Vietnam. |
