![]() HOUSTON - Many people treat their pets like children, but a woman is in legal trouble after calling 911 and claiming that her baby was stuck in the sewer.
The woman, who was not immediately identified, called the fire department three times saying that her cat was stuck in the sewer, according to police. On the fourth call the woman said her 2-year-old baby was stuck in the sewer. The cat?s name is Baby. The firefighters arrived expecting to find a child, but rescued the feline from the sewer anyway. Police gave the woman a ticket for making a false report, a Class B misdemeanor. ?They said they were desperate, didn?t know what else to do,? Houston Fire Department Capt. Keith Ellery told Houston television station KPRC. Members of the woman?s family said they tried to rescue the cat themselves before calling for help. The Firefighters rescued the cat and while they were there the police got another call and while leaving the officer ran over the cat. Ron |

![]() Well I'd hate to brake the law but if you seriously want help start yelling FIRE!! PEOple will respond to this a lot better than HELP HELP A MAN WITH A GUN IS TRYING TO (rob, kill, rape) ME!! Sorry but thats just basic psychology.
if the firemen don't like this and get you put in the jail, just consider that its a lot easier to get out of jail than get out of a graveyard STAY good JAMES

![]() Its not the firemen that don't want to help, The city managment wont let firemen take a engine out of service, (ladder a tree) for a cat. In a city like houston where they have 50,000 calls a year, you have to have priorities, Cat in a tree is not real high up there and people just don't use common sence when it comes to there pets. Its nice for childerns books, (fireman getting a cat out of a tree) but in reality that truck is an emergency piece of eqipment and just what do you say to someone that has a real emergency and there fire truck is at someones house with a ladder up and two firefighters in a tree getting a cat. I would think it would be what do you say to that persons lawyer while you were on the wittness stand.
Ive had my crew get cats out of a tree before Ive sent my crew down a sewer after some baby ducks that were blew in there by a passing car. I even had a guy get inside a chimmny to get a duck that had fallen in from top. But I was taking a chance with the next person that called with a real emergency, we would have been 1 to 2 min late. ![]() I had a firefighter get in some serious trouble one day for a cat in a tree, it was after that , that I told my crew I would handle all cat in the tree calls.
One day this lady calls the station and asked the fireman who answered the phone , "do you have anything that will get a cat out of a tree" without even a pause he said "yea a 12 gage" she hung up and called the mayor who was a friend of hers. Now what he said was both truthful and an answer to her question, so it may be funny sort of but it was an answer and it was the truth, She and the mayor may not have liked the answer but when you give no direction. ![]() When I was a fire dispatcher we got quite a few "cat in a tree" calls.
It was up to the lieutenant of the nearest engine company if they wanted to do it. They'd radio me 10-8 to that address and then give me "in service on scene" or "in service for multi-engine responses" and I'd handle single-engine responses with next closest. Never had a problem with that. |
