US reviewing case of civilian deaths in Vietnam War

TOLEDO, Ohio: The U.S. Army is reviewing an investigation into an
elite platoon accused of killing hundreds of unarmed villagers during
the Vietnam War, a newspaper reported.

The Army decided to review the case, which was closed in 1975, a week
after The Blade reported the Army's 101st Airborne Division Tiger
Force killed the civilians, including women, children and elderly
farmers, over a period of seven months in 1967.

The 4 1/2-year investigation by the Army, never previously made
public, substantiated 20 war crimes by 18 soldiers and reached the
Pentagon and White House, but no one was charged.

Military officials are expected to spend weeks going over evidence
from the investigation of Tiger Force that began in 1971, Army
spokesman Joe Burlas said.
