Default Watches

Being the LTs RTO I kinda had to have a watch. Most of the watches in VN didn't last through the night, Seems like every time I was near a base camp I was in there PX getting a new watch, I must have tried them all. The best I had was a cheep Timex. It lasted about 6 months and then I bought a nother one. I got the thing muddy, dirty, wet, sweaty, I droped it sat on it and had it knocked off my arm and it kept on working. I would break the band a couple days after I got a new one, and stick the watch in my pocket. One time I had the band buckle through my dog tag chain and had a watch around my neck.
But, If we were to be some place at a time it wasn't because I didn't know what time it was that we didn't make it.

Default Bought a mail order watch

I bought a mail order watch, it was a dive watch. A couple of buds of mine had the same one so I bought it.
It worked fine and being a dive watch was waterproof and aboiut as damage proof as could be.
the first selfwinding watch I ever had.
I kept it all through the Nam and after wards. Don't know what happened to it.
I don't wear a watch now, just look on the cell phone when i want to know what time it is which is about once a week
Stay good
James

I used to wear a cheapo-cheapo Timex that cost $2.50. One of my crewmates bragged about his $100 gold watch he got for his high school graduation present, and constantly put down my Timex. I asked him why he never wore the $100 watch. He said it was broken. If I need to know the time, I'll take a $2.50 Timex over a $100 gold watch anyday.

I bought a seiko watch at the China Beach PX and it lasted for years. When it finally gave out it still had the Vietnam dirt attached to it.
