Two Philadelphia Firefighters Die Battling House Blaze

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Two firefighters died while battling a blaze in a row home in northeast Philadelphia on Friday night, authorities said.

Authorities said the firefighters were in the basement of the home in the Port Richmond section of the city when they ran into trouble and called for help on their radios, Deputy Fire Commissioner John McGrath said.

"At some point in the fire they had indicated through their emergency buttons that are on their radios that they were in distress," McGrath said. "A rapid intervention team went in to get them out ... they were transported to the hospital and they were later pronounced (dead) by the doctors."
