19 special operations soldiers to get Silver Stars
(Published December 12, 2008)

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The U.S. Army Special Operations Command will award the most Silver Star medals since the Vietnam War.

Nineteen soldiers from 3rd Special Forces Group will be awarded Silver Star medals for combat valor in Afghanistan and Iraq on Friday at Fort Bragg. It is the largest number of Silver Stars given during one ceremony since the Sontay Raid, a daring prison rescue, during the Vietnam War. Eighty Silver Stars were awarded.

The Silver Star is the Army's third highest award for combat valor. Lt. Gen. John Mulholland, U.S. Army Special Operations Command commanding general, will present the awards.
