What about the pilots that went in to get these guys and turned back because of heavy fire. IMHO, wimps
Why can I say that? Because if you want to know something about me, here goes.
We had six Cav crews attached to the attack Battalion. They were short handed. When we coverd a recon unit, our job was to cover them and our scout aircraft. My Platoon Leader and a Aeroscout was in the OH-58 that was my responsibility. They called on the radio that they were hit by several small arms rounds. We flew in between them and the fire, located the troops that were shooting and flew straight at them, launching 2 rockets and some 20mm, killing most of them. We did a return to target, took some hits, and flew back at them at 250 kts. Under heavy small arms fire we launched 12 more rockets and emptied the 20mm. All dead, and we didn't cut and run from the fight. No, I didn't go down, but they damn well would never have gotten their grubby hands on the guys in the Scout. Is that enough, or would you rather I talk more about things I prefer not to?
