Default Medal of Honor Winner Dies

Col William Barber died 10 days ago. As a captain, his company was assigned to keep the southern pass out of the Chosen open. The Chinese sent about 3000 troops to close the pass. Barber's fought off the horde for 5 days keeping the pass open for the entire 1st Marine Division to exit. Although wounded, Capt. Barber refused to leave the fight. For this action, he was awarded the HMO.
Col. Barber commanded the 2nd Marines in the late '60s. During the IG's inspection (1968), Col. Barber picked out the weapons PLT ("C" 2/2) that I was serving with to stop and talk with every Marine in weapons. It wasn't the quick-n-move questions. It was the take of the troops questions: is there anything I can do for you, food in the mess hall, what would like to see improved.
"Another Marine reporting."
