Hey Sue!

Back in 89 my good ole fishing buddy comes by my house in Newport, WA. He says, lets go Ice Fishing! It 10 PM. There is about two feet of snow on the ground. It has been really cold lately but I let him talk me into it. We head to Spirit Lake ID. I have every bit of warm clothing I can put on. I figure no way am I going to freeze. We fish until about 2 AM and I am getting awful cold, my feet are getting really cold inspite of my pacs. Anyway I convince Nick to go in. The three little fish we caught were frozen in a curved position in a middle of a flop. Anyway we come in and I crawl in bed with my favorite (only) wife and cuddle up to her for warmth and just about get killed. "Your cold all over, get away from me." she said. Anyway, I wake up about 9:00 Am and my little wife is laughing. "You and Nick are crazy, Spirit Lake, ID was the coldest place in the lower forty-eight last night with 31 degrees (F) below zero last night. And you guys were standing out on that lake." "Yep" she said, "you guys are crazy." I say, "It wasn't the 31 below that was so cold it was that stupid wind that got us."

All my wife did was shake her head. She'd married a certifiably crazy man.

My brother lives outside Washington DC, and did that Polar Bear thing in the Potomac a couple days ago. I said, "Are you nuts? You could just move back to Buffalo for that kind of thrill."
The ice fishing stories remind me of the Grumpy Old Men movies!!!!

Ice Fish

I caught a 200 pound ice fish once and damned near drowned trying to cook it.

When you cook an ice fish, doesn't it just melt into water???
Good for dieters I guess!

Janie called me a grumpy old man. I'm hurt. I didn't think anyone knew!

The gig is up. Just call me grumpy.

Grumpy;;;;;

I think if I would have been out there and ice fishing at the time of night and go hoome and have someone wake me up the morning until I want to get out of bed,,,, Well the name fits now...

Ever try cooking one of those curly fish? Just like bacon I guess.

Drywall wouldnt know, cause he says he never catches anything,, ha ha ( bet he does "reel" good.

enough.........

We were catching . . . . .

We were catching "silver trout" landlocked kokanee salmon. They run in big schools and in Idaho its a 30 fish limit. We catch them 8" - 12" - cut off their heads, tails, fins and gut them out then can them in a pressure cooker. Some smoke them slightly before canning. Now, that is good eating!!!!

Those fish would hit that Ice and flop once and they were frozen in a curl. Never saw that happen before or since.
