Military Bloodlines.

I thought about this last night after a "Navy Brat" discussion was started betwween me, David and Boats. Granted, I may be new, but this is one heck of a way for all of us to get to know a little bit more about each other. Why not give it a try? Like a family organizational record of your military service.

My family has been Navy 100% having served in many conflicts starting at the Civil War. The Byrd's and The Weeks'.

1. David Byrd - CSN, Blockade Bandit
2. Micha Weeks - USN, WW1
3. Matthew Weeks - USN, WW2 and Korea
4. David Weeks, Sr. - USN, Vietnam
5. David Weeks, Jr. - USN, Desert Storm

Your turn, and don't be afraid to share some info! Come on, have fun and join in the educational process of other vet's getting to know more about us all.

Well Spanky,

I am alone in this world of military personnell on my side of the family.

I am the only one that joined the military ( Navy)

I have brothers and sisters and two sons of my own who will most likely Never enter the land of discipline and pleasure.

I wish my youngest would join, he is only 23 now, but has a kid, my oldest is 25 and no kids, but a brand new wife of only one year.

My brothers and sisters are just like me, WAY TO DAMN OLD TO JOIN.

I may be one of a few that really enjoyed being in the Navy, and I have NO Regrets ( except for the OD while you are on watch in Boot saying "give me twenty" for not answering properly, and alot of times you did answer properly, but that to me is discipline. Not the bad way, just makes you a better pewrson.

Boy, am I straying off the subject.

better sign off now

enough...........

I'm a second generation American - family from Germany. So, in the 2nd I had family on both sides of the front. When my Grandfather came from Germany they changed our name at Ellis from Unrhu to Deane. Thank the 1st for that.

John Deane - Join Army after becoming a citizen to say thanks - WW1 (great grandpa)
Hanfier Unrhu - German Army WW1 (great gramps brother)
Mirshon Unrhu - SS WW2 (Hanifer's son)
Grelodder Steiner - Wermacht WW2 (grandfathers uncle)
Morris W. Steiner - LTCDR - USN, WW2-Korea-Vietnam (grandpa)
Robert H. Deane - USAF, Korea (uncle)
David L. Deane - USN, Vietnam (dad)
William W. Seay - USA, Vietnam (CMH, 64TH Trans.) (uncle)
Morris W. Steiner II - USA, Germany & Recruiter (uncle)
David M. Deane - USN, USS Lexington (brother)
Timothy M. Deane - USA, Desert Storm (me)
Morris W. Steiner III - USA, Turkey (cousin)
Samantha M. Deane - USAF, Scott AFB (sister)

Unrhu/Deane - father's side Steiner - mom's side

My Great Gramps instilled in us our "family duty" to serve our military because the United States gave our family freedom when he left Germany. It's always been called our right of passage and a way to give because the US welcomed us in.
Some families are born to do certain things - ours is here to serve our military.

Spanky,
5th generation Navy, huh? That's awsome. Tell me; do you have a street address or a hull number on your front door?

Doc Deane,
I sent you a PM about one of your relatives.

I'm the guy that Shakespeare was talking about when he said that he held his manhood cheap....no military experience for me or any in my immediate family.

I'm still werkin' on it.

Lots of gaps in my info, yet.

My Dad, James, Air Force, Korea
My Uncle Norman, USA, WWII
Myself, USMC
My brother James, USMC
My brother Cliff, USA,
My brother Gary, USA

My cousin Ron, Air Force, VietNam
My cousin Rick, Air Force, VietNam

Got Bonesteels in military service in every era since the Colonial Army in 1720. The guy in 1720 was named was David Penenstiehl. Lots of other names, but I'm trying to track down the time between 1812 and the Civil War for my direct ancestors.( Records and such). I need more info on the calvary officer who served in Colorado before the Civil War. 26 Bonesteels served with the Union Army during the Civil War, none were known to serve with the Confederates. Had Bonesteels in every major conflict this country's seen. Unlike some families, there's only about four hundred Bonesteel families currently in the US. Some of the Bonesteel Tories moved to Canada in the late 1700's when the British were gettin' their butts kicked. Some of them moved back in the mid 1800's.Bonesteels are buried in Arlington and one is on The Wall in D.C.

Every branch of the service from Privates to at least one General ( USA).

In my direct line, my grandfather was either too old or too young or had too many kids. He had nine in the house at one point.

It doesn't look like my son is gonna join. His decision. In a direct lineage from 1720, my side of the family has skipped only one generation of service that I am currently aware of. Two, if the boy never joins up.

I'm still doin' the research.
