My neighbor.. a movie.. and a Thank You!
My neighbor who is 39 and not very up on world history and things of a military nature, was visiting his dying mother over the weekend and viewed the movie "We Were Soldiers Once" with his family. I have discussed my Vietnam service with him only in passing. He came over tonight and made a special point to thank me for my service and that he had never understood what Americans from that generation went through. I tried to make him understand that the type of battle that transpired in that movie was unusual for Vietnam, that my experience was nothing like that, that it was probably the best movie about Vietnam so far, and that everything that was addressed in that movie about the way the war was going to be fought sealed the fate of 58,000 brave Americans. He understood as best he could, and after he left I got something in my eye and I just had a good feeling all over....

We Were Soldiers
I just finished seeing "We Were Soldiers" finally & I thought it
was a very well done movie.Like you MD i had no combat that intense (Thank God) But,I had enough to last a life time. I put a 1st Cav patch in my truck window and I've noticed some respectful glances.I hope it brings honor to the men who fought and died there in that "Valley of Death" I'm proud to call them "Brothers" masher |

Jaysus! You live next door to Ron ["My neighbor who is 39....]?! Keep an eye on your wallet, Bud :D :D .
It feels REEAALL good to be earnestly thanked for our service. I'm glad that you got to experience it. Welcome Home, Bro. |
My response
Oh, Pshaw, it was nothing, anyone could have done it. Sorry we lost tho, we just had 10,000 bad days in a row. We'll do better next time, we promise
