VIETNAM 1968 02-20-2003 10:02 PM

First time contributer to this Web Sight

I have recently joined this Web Sight and am still trying to find my way around while learning how to get the most out of it's contents.

I spent four years on Active Duty, with the Air Force, and did my Tour Of Duty at Cam Ranh Bay while assigned to the 12th Supply Squadron (Fuels Section). I was at Cam Ranh Bay from January 1968 until January 1969. As such, I got to Vietnam just in time to be caught up in the Tet Offensive of 1968.

I would like to attempt to make contact with others that were also assigned to the 12th Supply Squadron, Fuels Section, during the time I was stationed there. It has been thirty-five years since I did my Tour Of Duty and it would mean a lot to me to make contact with others from the Squadron.

I'll close for now, by wishing all my Vietnam Veteran Brothers and Sisters: Welcome Home

Welcome!

We are all relatively sane here except of course for James. We have decided to send him back to Vietnam. (Don't tell him it wasn't his idea. He thinks it is.) He is an ex LRRP and is taking his girlfriend with him. Something about some "undercover operations."

Did a three day in country R&R in Cam Ranh Bay . The thing I liked most about the place was the Mess Hall. I slept on the beach and used a real toilet that flushed. Then I had to leave. Should have joined the AF. Welcome.

WELCOME!

I was in Cam Rahn Bay from MAY-DEC68, on convoy security escorting tanker trucks into the Central Highlands. Loved it there. Beat the Hell out of any of the other places I'd lived at in Nam. Well, except for the two weeks that I spent in Saigon in '66 put up in a hotel :D . Sorry to hear about your friend, Alan. I hope your search for some of his, and your, buddies pans out.

RON: I think you're the only grunt that I know that actually got a 3 day in-country R&R. I thought it was only the REMFs that got one. Or that's how it was in the 101st. Good for you, Bud.

We were set up for the day and 6 himself calls on the radio. He asked if anyone would like a three day incountry R&R I said yes. He said he would send his chopper for the person and how long would it take, I told him I was ready. I went and told the LT that 6 was sending his chopper for me and I was going on a 3 day R&R. Everything you imagin he said, he said it, until the chopper showed up. I handed the radio to LT and got on the chopper. The crew chief handed me a piece of paper that said that I had a R&R and 6 signiture, He landed me on the white sand beach and took off. There I was standing on the beach No shave, stinky, dirty all my stuff and my gun, This Sgt. comes running down to me from what looked like a beach cafe and had me give hime all my stuff, He assigned me a barraks , I went to the mess hall. I was in heaven.
