Major League Baseball and Broken Bats

Okay, MLB has had the off-season to decide what to do about the broken maple bat problem.

So, what's the verdict?

Susan Rhodes, a 50-year-old single mother of two, isn't sure if she'll ever attend another Dodger game again.

Can't blame her. Why submit yourself to getting a broken bat in the face again.

Rhodes explains how taking the barrel end of Todd Helton's broken maple bat in the left side of her jaw during a game at Dodger Stadium back on April 25, 2008, has caused her nothing but pain ever since.

Two fractures in her jaw, screws placed in it, having it all wired shut ... and more than $7,000 in medical bills, which the Dodgers' insurance carrier said they are under no obligation to help her pay.

(It's that disclaimer all on the back of the ticket, remember?)

"This is an unfortunate incident, and we wish her a speedy and full recovery," Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch says.

Wrong Steve. It's QM Steve from NY. Quit drinking until next week.

Not QM "STEVE". All our bats used to be made out of Adirondak White Ash. Most times at worse they would crack. The maple ain't worth the wood it's made out of. Hardly ever did the Ash saw off. As far as the Dodgers go....what it says on the ticket doesn't mean shit. That woman needs to sue them. It's just like if you pay to park and they have a sign up stating "not responsible...bla, bla." Well, they are. Your paying them to park there. Their responsibility to keep thieves away. I'm going to assume that this woman has hired a lawyer and they will probably settle out of court.

It's sad that they are using those cheap ass bats. NEVER did I have an Adirondak break in half. Nor a Louisville, also made from white ash at one time.

So, I reckon the problem is no more Ash? Or, if there is it`s probably cost prohibitive. I don`t know what will become of it-might have to put netting on the baselines. They can`t go to aluminum, not with the current configuration of the diamond. Hell, today`s juiced players would likely kill anyone on the infield, let alone the pitcher.
Mabe carbon fiber has a future in MLB.

Move the pitcher mound back 5 feet, make them play with the ball and use an aluminum bats. pampered millionaires, dumb ass people in the stands.
You stick your head into a hornets nest and guess what, you may get stung.
You sit along the 3rd baseline and they use wood bats, guess what you may get a wood bat surprise. Dumb Ass.
