Bob that was the mash from my Grandpa's wine barrels that was so powerful that 3 oz. could roll down your socks. He used to have a shot every morning with his coffee - I think it used to jump start up.
He made a white wine for cooking and red table wine that we all drank from lilttle squirts to adults and of course he had small barrel of grappa. I guess you could call it Italian White Lightening that all I know. Lot's of Italians who make wine also make a grappa out of the mash. You have to be careful with this stuff it sneaks up on you - quick. I recall when I was working in Saudi on a US ship that came in and its had a crew all out of Alabama. Well after having a hot meal and cold glasses of fresh milk we worked all afternoon unloading cargo and then it finally ended we sat on the deck and watched the camels run around on the dock. One of the old boys came out with a bottle and it was clear a glass - that's all I remember until morning sleeping on a pile of rope on the deck - whew what a hangover!! Ouch. |
