Anything more than 1 finger is way to complicated for me

Once again, my ethno-evaluation system has been proven correct! bOOger just confirmed it! That's why he only picks his nose one finger at a time. And to further demonstrate the efficacy of this system, it shows empirically that bOOger has been taking spelling lessons from little ronnie!

You need to quit referring to lil ronnie as lil ronnie. Im still tryin' to defend you on the other PF

Steve,

40 years ago it was not as complicated as it is today. Many of the signals are decoys and the runner would have to know more than he could possibly know to steal the sign. Also, the catcher must first get the signals from the bench. This was NOT the way it happened in the old days. Catcher's had to learn all the batters hitting tendecies, move the defense, and call the pitchers. All done by computer and from the bench now. I cannot figure out their signals anymore. They may go thru 5 different series for 5 different situations. Very complicated now but they've taken the fun out of being a catcher. The former field general is now a messenger. Scouts got it right.

...info comin' to the catcher from the bench...

hmmm...is that what all that "touch cap-touch ear-touch nose" stuff is that goes on in the dugout?

Also,

Human beings are creatures of habit...we do little things in certain situations that we aren't aware of.

That goes for pitchers too.

Could a batter read a pitcher's pre-pitch/wind-up behavior to any benefit?

Reason I ask this is, I've seen games where the pitcher was doing a good job, and then all of a sudden bam bam bam! Balls start going over the walls.

2-0 Sox lead the series !!

We are half way to my prediction. What a feat for the Sox to win 2 World Series in 8 games.

Steve,

You got it. All those signals to the nose etc. that Boston uses from the bench to Varitek are just that. Signals on how to pitch to the batter. Baseball is a science anymore and if a pitcher has "tendencies" like you suggest, which they do, their team mates and coaches will point those out early in a career. Believe me, there are so many people on both sides of the dugout looking for an edge to get on a pitcher that most are very well trained in how to hide their pitches. About the best a guy on second base can do is try to watch the hand position on the ball....but most, except out right knuckleballers, hide this very well or change the position during the motion. If you could really figure out the sign sequences, you'd be a multi-millionaire after one phone call and proving it.

As a bonus James Taylor sang the National Anthem. Griz e-mailed me today that 40 years ago , unknown to them , he and Andy were in the Iron Triangle about 20 klicks from each other. Both in holes with their ponchos over them listening to the 67 series with transistor radios pressed to their ears. I know Andy is smiling at the sandstormes both Griz and I shared today. Yankees Suck !!! Go Bo Sox !!!

How about Matt Holliday gettin' picked off at 1st? Damn!

This is gettin' good!

Now I can watch Big Papi play 1st base while I eat my free taco!

Thanks, Jacoby!

3-0

One more tonight and my prediction holds.....GO SOX! If they win, this means they won 2 World Series in 8 games. One more than a 7 game series. That should be history!
